Papeete, TAWe discover French Polynesia on this leg of DARWIN200.
This leg of DARWIN200 Global Voyage is all about the famous atolls in this area: circular islands, founded on coral. Where the sometimes-high waves break on the reef outside, inside the atoll is often a lagoon with calm waters and sandy beaches. Many atolls have a passage through which you can sail through the reef into the lagoon. Due to the white sand, the sea here is all shades of green and blue and the often-lush green islands and beautiful beaches make this area one of the most beautiful places on earth.
This voyage is different from all other legs because we finish where we start: in Papeete. So, we can sail at our leisure, and we don’t ‘need’ anything. On Tahiti itself, there are scenic beaches to explore and a mountainous and lush farmland. But we also want to sail. The captain therefore makes a route in which we choose several beautiful anchorages. Sometimes it is only a few hours sailing to the next destination. The next day we sail a little longer and then stay for a day to discover the island, the local culture such as the traditional dances, but also the beautiful nature with the famous waterfalls.
Before and after your voyage leg
We strongly recommend you book a few days accommodation in the port of your embarkation (prior to your joining Oosterschelde), and a few days in the port you disembark (after your place on the voyage ends). This will allow you to recover before and after your adventure and will give you the opportunity to explore locations at your start and end points.

Level 1 trips are suitable for anyone in good health. We sail, for example, in sheltered waters or close to shore. In heavy weather, we can seek shelter in a port or opt for a more sheltered route.
The shipping company would like the OOSTERSCHELDE to be accessible to the widest possible audience, but you must realize that you are making a voyage aboard a seagoing tall ship. This requires more of your physical ability than a daily walk. Some voyages are more challenging than others. With the different levels, we give an indication of how heavy the voyage can be. If you are unsure whether a voyage is suitable for you, it is important to contact shipping company OOSTERSCHELDE for advice
