The coast of Brittany

Sailing along the Breton coast is beautiful. The landscapes are impressive, with high cliffs and dramatic rock formations. Between these rocks and islands, the seawater rushes back and forth with the tide, swirling and racing at remarkable speeds.

On some headlands and the most dangerous rocks, they have built lighthouses. Impressive structures, often far away from everything else. You can’t help wondering how they managed to get all the building materials there, and the construction itself certainly can’t have been easy.

But none of this would be nearly as beautiful without the Breton light. This is the light that draws painters from all over Europe to Brittany, trying to capture it forever on their canvases. Especially the soft, low-angle light in the hour after sunrise and before sunset is breathtaking.
