Quincy

After a highly successful Sail Boston festival, the ‘Oosterschelde’ is now moored in Quincy, just six miles from Boston. We received a festive welcome, escorted into the harbour by three police boats and the local fireboat. While the ‘Oosterschelde’ was one of many ships in Boston, here in Quincy we are the only tall ship.

Upon our arrival, we welcomed the Mayor of Quincy aboard. Together with the captain, he raised the Quincy city flag in the mizzen mast.

During our stay, we are hosting three days of Open Ship, giving everyone the opportunity to come aboard and explore the vessel. On the very first day, we welcomed around 3,000 visitors. That certainly promises a busy few days ahead.

The organisers in Quincy have done a fantastic job. Posters of the ‘Oosterschelde’ can be found all over the city. I don’t think there’s anyone in Quincy who doesn’t know we’re here. The local brewery and taproom, Break Rock Brewing Co., has even renamed its waterfront terrace the “Oosterschelde Beer Garden.” Naturally, the entire crew had to stop by for a beer. They brew some excellent ones!
