Third Cape Verde Voyage

We started off on our third voyage in Cape Verde. Last night, all guests for this new journey came aboard. After a welcome and an introduction by the captain, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner before turning in for a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Many of our guests travelled to Sal on the day of embarkation, which for some meant leaving home as early as 4:00 a.m. A good night’s rest on board was therefore very welcome.

This morning, after breakfast, the ship was made ready for sea. The fore course sail was prepared and the topsails were loosed. Once the anchor was weighed, the fore course sail and topsails were set immediately. Sailing out of the bay of Palmeira under sail must have been an impressive sight for the people ashore.

Our first destination on this voyage is Tarrafal, on the island of Santiago. In 2023, the crew of the ‘Oosterschelde’ planted several mango trees here together with the local alderman. During this journey, we will return to see how “our” trees are doing. There will even be an attempt to find the tree that was planted personally three years ago.
