Progress
After a calm start, the voyage has become considerably more turbulent than some had anticipated. A large low-pressure system over the Canary Islands is causing strong winds and the accompanying high seas, and we are now feeling its effects as well.
Because the wind is coming almost directly from astern, we are steering slightly off course to avoid an accidental gybe. Waves are reaching heights of up to five meters, and the ship occasionally makes heavy rolls. Everything becomes more challenging under these conditions: eating, moving around, and even staying in bed — let alone getting any sleep.
Still, with a reduced sail plan we are making good speed. If the forecasts hold true, the wind should gradually ease again tomorrow and on Monday.
