Stars

This voyage started with a wonderful day of sailing to Santiago. Where it was mainly cloudy and dusty in recent days, the sky is now clear. It’s also a new moon, so we see countless stars. Besides our familiar constellations Orion, the Great Bear and the North Star, there are also countless constellations that you cannot observe in the Netherlands. The Southern Cross is unfortunately not yet visible at this latitude, although the False Southern Cross look deceptively similar.

The wind has now increased further to 6 to 7 Btf. Challenging sailing conditions, although Tall Ship Oosterschelde ran beautifully close to the wind last night, due to the high waves. The new mainsail struggled, and despite a reef we had set up, it finally tore out. Fortunately, we have an older mainsail with us as a spare and we will hit that today.
