Desolate Scotland

The wind seemed to be in our favor for a while. After a wonderful night and morning of sailing we arrived at St Kilda. We went on shore after lunch and stayed there until the next morning. Our plan was to sail to the Faroe Islands, but there was no wind to push us in the right direction. So we decided to dive ‘in’ first for a short stop in Ullapool. There, sailor Matu was able to say hello to his family and wish his sister a happy birthday. Of course, Richard took the opportunity to visit the Tesco and we were finally able to dispose our waste somewhere, which slowly started to accumulate.

After a morning in Ullapool we left again and motor-sailed out of the Minch. We had to hurry up a bit to pick up the expected easterly wind over the mainland of Scotland, which would give us the opportunity to sail to the Faroe Islands. The forecast said we should be northeast of Cape Wrath at 8:00 AM to pick it up and we were there at exactly that time. And guess what: the wind started to pick up, more sails went up and the engine was switched off. Under sail we leave Scotland behind, we are on our way to the north, to the Faroe Islands. The first time for the OOSTERSCHELDE and all her (guest) crew!
