Arctic Circle

2 August 2019

One of the highlights of this trip is the crossing of the Arctic Circle. We can’t let this moment go by unnoticed, because Poseidon has to grant permission! We made stop at the island Vikingen, just south of the Arctic Circle. There you can find the ‘Arctic Circle Monument’, a perfect place to ask the god of the sea’s permission. Luckily, I was the only one who already crossed the Arctic Circle so I could stay on board during the ceremony. Because Sara already sailed north of the circle (but did not cross it) she was the perfect person to lead the ceremony, but also start by being the first one to pour Arctic water over her head. After her the others followed and they all received the certificate with permission of Poseidon.  Once everyone was back on board, we crossed the circle and celebrated with a glass of bubbles. Not much longer we dropped anchor for the (not so dark) night.

This morning we continued our way to Bodø. The wind was finally in our favour, so we hoisted the sails and sailed away with about 2 knots. For just a little while because the wind shifted again, and we had to get the sails down again and start the engine.

We just went into the Holandsfjord to get closer to the Svartisen glacier and we are now looking for a spot to spend the night. We are still hoping on some favourable winds…
