Anchor troubles

4 March 2019

With a new group of guests, we started a new trip, a trip that is so far defined by anchoring.

In Palmeira there was a lot of wind and due to the limited space we had, we could not put in a long anchor chain which lead to the ship coming off the anchor. Up to four times we had to move and try again with two anchors. During two out of those four times one of the anchors got stuck behind rocks and it took a lot of maneuvering to get the anchor back again. So, when everyone was on board, we decided to move to another bay more south where we would have a bit more room. But when hoisting the anchor there was a steel frame hanging on the starboard anchor.. We decided to give that a burial at sea when we reached deep water.

Due to all this it was already 8PM before we anchored at Murdeira. And the story continues as the next morning, when we wanted to hoist the anchors, the two chains for some reason got tangled. Because of the strong wind it was difficult to get them untangled, but after that, we finally sailed do Tarrafal on Santiago.
