River Orwell

River Orwell

13 September 2018

We had lovely wind all the way in the English Channel, southwest 4 to 5 Bft! So, we sailed with a lot of sail up in one straight line to the North Sea. In the narrow part we were sailing downwind, so we coursed broad reach. In the dark we passed by Dover and even in the dark we could see the white cliffs.
The weather forecast said the wind would shift north. When we reached Ramsgate the wind from the north was there, so we started the engine and sailed north to the river Orwell.
Yesterday we sailed up the river and at the end of the day we went through the lock at Ipswich. Today there is no wind, so we stay here to visit the town. This afternoon we will set sail again and we will make a stop at Pinmill to visit this ‘world-famous’ pub.
