Isle of Man

4 August 2018

Yesterday evening we arrived at Peel on the Isle of Man. It’s a nice fishing village with a shallow bay. We dropped anchor, and after dinner we went on shore for a walk or a beer in the local pub. This morning we took a little time to explore Peel before sailing away. We were lucky as there was a good wind and it was a great sailing afternoon. In the evening the wind disappeared again. Before us was the North Channel, the connection between the Irish Sea and the Scottish Hebrides. Because of the strong current it is important to time our voyage well. The next few hours, the current was favorable for our course. So, we spend the first part on motor. Moments before the current shifted, we dropped anchor besides Copeland Island, near the entrance to Belfast. We will wait here until the strong unfavorable current passed.
Tomorrow we will lift the anchor and profit from the favorable current. Then we will arrive in the Hebrides, and our final destination Oban will come close. The next few days we will spend between the isles. We will keep our eyes out on the weather and adjust our days accordingly.
