Great skua

Great skua

Great skua

15 May 2018

We have spent the night with the engine on, but fortunately in the morning a little wind arrived. We hoisted the sails and switched off the engine. It is very tempting to set course in the right direction, but as said before, we have to go north before turning eastwards. We have calculated that we have to navigate at least to 35 degrees north, and preferably 36 degrees. This evening the wind became stronger, so we went pretty fast. Now the wind has decreased and we hope that it will return again.
We start to see some animals: dolphins, Red-billed tropicbirds and Gannets, and this morning we saw a Great skua above the wake. But as there are no other birds in sight, there is nothing to eat for our Great skua. This hunter is a pirate of the sky, who waits until another bird catches a fish. Then it will steal the fish. We hope some birds arrive, so we can watch this spectacle…
