Bye-bye USA

30 April 2018

We have left the USA behind us and we are on our way to Bermuda. The departure was somewhat messy because we had to clear the quay while crew members Edward and Fennardie had not yet arrived on board. Returning the rental car went smoothly, but they had to wait quite some time before the taxi arrived to bring them to the ship. We had strict orders from the harbour master to leave the quay at 11 o’clock at the latest. So, at exactly 10:59 AM we left our spot. There was no other ship in sight to take ‘our’ spot. At 11:02 AM Edward and Fennardie arrived at the quay, so we went backwards to pick them up. They jumped on board. Still no other ship in sight…
As soon as we left, we saw the first dolphins next to the ship. Many small motorboats in the bay came to take a look at us. It was sad that there was little wind, so we left without setting sails. Once we were out in the open water we set the sails, and it was great sailing weather.
Now, in the night, we sail towards Key West. We hope to arrive there tomorrow evening. The weather forecasts are not very favourable for the next few days. But now it is fine, so we try to enjoy it while it lasts.
