Lots of wind

Lots of wind

Lots of wind

9 February 2018

It has been more windy than normal in Cape Verde. This is not really a big problem, because we just put a reef in the sails and we go. One big downside to lots of wind: high waves. On our way from Santiago to São Vicente there were a few guests who did not really appreciate the waves… But with a strong wind more easterly than normal we went fast and we could sail all the way.
We started doing about 7 to 8 knots, but on the leeward side of the windward islands the sea was more flat and our grand old lady was in her element and our average was 9 and regularly far over 10 knots!
Yesterday we had an amazing walk on Santo Antão and now we are preparing for our leg towards São Nicolau. The forecast predicts more wind, so we have decided to sail via the south side of São Vicente and the uninhabited islands of Santa Lucia, Branco and Rasso. We hope for a less bumpy ride.
