Update from Jan ten Dam:
“Christmas dinner was a big success. A few guests even toasted with a glass of wine and to make the dinner complete a coffee with Tia Maria or Cointreau which made them unavailable for watch on deck. Christmas day on deck was a normal day of watch keeping but it was lovely with nice wind and sunshine. The day ended when we dropped anchor in the bay of Cascais.
The next day we went on shore. There was too little time to go to Lisbon, but Cascais has enough to offer: a beautiful old city, a park, shops, restaurants etc. I went for some errands and lunch with a fellow sailor. We both have the same feeling: we are not tourist, but sailors. That’s what you get when you are on board in the watch system.
After dinner, we prepared the ship for sea, started the engine and hoisted the anchor. We are sailing again and there is quite some wind so this is a test for my sea legs. Today, Wednesday, the wind has decreased and the waves too. With the sun and the nice temperatures, it is great to be sailing. The forecast says it will stay like this for a few days.”
