Setback

6 October 2017

We prepare the ship to be sandblasted. Meanwhile, we also work very hard in the tent to restore all the round timber. All wood has been removed from the deck, meaning all doors, cases and even parts of the wooden foredeck.
All hatches, portholes and doors are covered by custom made wooden plates which are sealed to keep the dust out. We were supposed to sail into the dock for sandblasting. But, just when we were ready to go, we received a call from the sandblasting company. Because they found asbestos in a stock of products of one of their suppliers, all the companies which use this product are shut down immediately, including the sandblasting company which would sandblast the ‘Oosterschelde’… How long this unexpected delay will last is not known. The only sure thing is that we won’t go into the dock tomorrow.
