Masts

27 September 2017

Today the three masted have been removed. Please find the photos of the job. On our Facebook page you can watch a timelapse of the day. It was a long, busy day that ended with a setback. During the horizontal lift of the last mast, one of the ropes that was used to lift the mast got stuck behind a shackle and when it came loose the topmast got such a shock that it tore. A big and unexpected setback. Luckily it looks like we will be able to fix it, so we are going the start with that right away on Monday.
The masts and the bowsprit have been put on the quay without any problems. For the first time since the restoration the ship is stripped. The coming days we are going to get the ship ready for the sandblasting. We will built a tent over the masts and then we will scratch the varnish off and put on a new layer.
