6 August 2017

Update by first mate Jan: “We started again, this time on the 5th of August at 16:31 UTC. The race was cancelled due to the lack of wind, so we have now been motor sailing for the past three days to the new starting line. Together with the other Class A ships, the ‘Alexander von Humboldt II’ and the ‘Gulden Leeuw’ we arrived at the start two hours before the closing of the starting window. We all had the same tactic: start as late as possible with the most wind. Meanwhile (night watch on the 6th of August 3 PM) we are sailing close hauled with 5 knots to the northeast. Its a clear sky, with an almost full moon, not to cold: it can be so beautiful! We do want to be a bit more east, but we are not complaining.
