Canso Canal

28 July 2017

We arrived at the beginning of the Canso Canal in the evening. Due to delays, we had to wait till the next morning to go further up the Canal. Halfway, we saw a large group of seals who were having breakfast. The seals were hunting from the water and the Gannets from the air. The school fishes did not stand a chance!
When the pilot had disembarked we could hoist the sails again. And soon we sailed on the Atlantic Ocean. For some this was not so pleasant, as they were not used to the swell.
On the way back we were followed by a rorqual with her calf. They surfaced a few times really close to the ship, what an amazing view!
We still have quite a way to go, and the wind is not on our side. So tonight we will turn on the engine to go in the right direction, in order to be able to sail the last part of our journey to Halifax tomorrow. With a little bit of luck, the wind will be fine tomorrow (Friday) and we will sail into Halifax fully rigged.
