Île Bonaventure

Île Bonaventure

Île Bonaventure

13 July 2017

We have been sailing a lot the past few days. With the ‘Gulden Leeuw’ by our side we sailed under full sail north and then west. We didn’t go fast but it was very enjoyable. We made a small detour to Île Bonaventure to see a colony of gannets. We saw hundreds of them but also auks, little auks and Common guillemots.
We also spotted whales, we see their blows a lot. Most of the time a bit too far away to be able to determine the specific species. Once in a while we see a fin or back, we think from humpback whales. And yesterday a few dolphins, but they were on their way to something because they did not stick around.
We are now going westsouthwest to the entrance of Saguenay. From the information we have this should be a beautiful fjord with whales and beluga’s. It would be my first time to spot those so fingers crossed!
The wind and current are against us, so we are on engine and it’s not going fast. We keep ourselves busy with classes on deck and tonight it’s movie night. We have amazing sunrises and sunsets and as we are close to shore we can look at the small towns we pass by.
