Damaging winds

5 May 2017

Safely arrived in the harbor of Savannah we are still occupied with the weather. Nowadays it is so hot here that there are thunderstorms at night. Sometimes very heavy ones. Today we even heard a warning about local tornados with damaging winds on the radio. According to the radio there was about 80 % chance of damaging winds in Downton Savannah, so we took protective measurements: extra lines to the quay, all sails extra well packed, loose objects lashed on deck and we’ve removed the awnings. Despite the ominous sky and the heavy rain around us, it was (fortunately) relatively quiet. Some thunder and lightning, some rain, but nothing peculiar. However, the local weather radar indicates that we’re not completely safe from more rain and wind.
