Marlin

“Boy, there is only two kinds of fish in this world.
There’s bait, and there is Marlin.”
This was the answer (on the question what he was hoping to catch) of a rough sport fishermen we met a long time ago on Ascension Island that always stayed in the back of my mind. Since then we caught many fish. Tuna, Wahoo, Grouper, Snapper and Mahi Mahi. But never a Marlin. Until yesterday!
A beautiful, white marlin of about two meters surrendered after a long fight.
After the victory and getting it on deck there’s a far less nice side of catching fish because what we catch, we eat. But it’s always sad to kill such a beautiful animal. A small consolation: two small fish fell from his jaws and we put them back in the ocean. They were probably thankful.
