Running start

12 November 2016

Even within the harbour of Portimão we already had enough sails up to cut the engine. Later on, already far from the coast, the wind veered to a very nice westerly and we did 9.5 knots with almost all sails up. When the wind slacked and veered further to the north, we had to change to the square sails because the swell would have brought damage to the other sails.
After this running start, we slowed to 2 to 3 knots. During the night we used the engine to get some extra speed. Now we are sailing nicely to the south, accompanied by a big pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins. Once in a while some rain, but who cares about some rain when it is 24 C.
