On our way home

21 September 2016

After day trips in London it is time to go back to sea again. Monday morning all our new guest crew were on board and we sailed once more all the way up to the Tower Bridge and then sailed down. There was unfortunately no wind and the forecast was not much better. The little wind that was forecasted would come from the east and even a bit more northerly. So we decided to steer a bit more north from Rotterdam to be in a better spot in case the wind would come. But to everyone’s surprise the wind came much earlier so we set all the sails and sailed. Not very fast and in the wrong directions, but it was still a great few hours. Then the wind disappeared and according to the forecast the wind would return from the east and then shift to the southeast so it was not too bad that we had sailed in the wrong direction.
In the meantime, we have reached the Belgium coast, the eastern wind is there and we are waiting for it to turn. Also the current should be changing so we expect to be able to follow the coastline. We expect to reach Hoek van Holland at the end of the day tomorrow. Then we will decide what to do: either we enter the New Waterway or we go for a few more hours of sailing at sea.
