Shiant Islands

9 August 2016

After a weekend in Stornoway it was time to leave. The wind had decreased to about 25 knots. Because the wind came from land we left under sail and with just the jib and topsail on we sailed out of the harbour doing 7 knots!
Once outside we double-reefed the mainsail and followed the coast. After a few hours we left the shore line and set course to the Shiant Islands. It was nicely sheltered there so we dropped anchor to have lunch. The guests went on shore to explore. Unfortunately the swell increased so getting back to the ship became a wet undertaking.
When everyone was back on board we set sail to Dunvegan. The decreasing wind pushed back our ETA so we decided to drop anchor in the bay and sail further with day light.
Now a few people are walking around town and visiting the castle and we do tours with the dinghy to the seals who are chilling out in the sun. Later we will depart to go to Rum where we will go hiking tomorrow.
