In the galley

Update by Isabelle H:
“Since we left the Azores we had one day with no wind but soon enough the wind picked up and the waves got bigger and bigger and with this the rain followed. All of the above makes for exciting sailing weather, if you like the rain.
My break to get away from all of this came when Richard the cook asked me to help him in the galley, making a pancake dinner, this sounded like a great alternative from my ‘Dog’ watch (12-4am), spending a day in the kitchen away from the rain and cold wind.
I woke up at 6 am and helped Richard cutting up the ingredients for the pancakes and prepping lunch. Little did I know how much of a challenge it is to bake pancakes when the ship makes a 30% heel on the port side or any side. Richard and I were constantly holding on to our pans and each other trying to keep our balance on a slippery floor. I quickly found out that the ‘koekepan’ only got hot on one side, something you never think about while at home.
After 4+ hours behind the stove, we made 100 some pancakes and made 30 people happy, they ate most of the pancakes within 20 minutes. I really enjoyed the experience and since then I have spent many more hours in the galley, helping Richard putting great food on the table.
I’m pretty sure I finally found my place on this ship besides trying to steer her into the right direction towards Rotterdam!”
