Departure Bermuda

13 May 2016

Yesterday 12th of May, under a blue sky in a very light east-south-east breeze, we set all sails while alongside the quay. A nice way to somewhat get to know the rigging for the newcomers. As St. George’s Town (bay entrance) towards sea is facing east, we had to run the engine as well. Horns blowing, a cannon shot, waving hands and off we went.
Once out in the open, we politely thanked Bermuda radio through VHF channel 27 for their help and hospitality and set out on a course north-easterly to find the promised wind.
Overnight the wind picked up a bit and by the time breakfast was done the ‘Oosterschelde’ was very smoothly and fully rigged sliding over an almost flat North Atlantic Ocean doing a little over five knots.
Two weeks ocean ahead of us. Some things can’t be better.
