After all the formalities were finished, we waited for the pilot to come on board so we could leave Veracruz behind. The pilot loved our ship and he really wanted to take the helm. So he did! Once outside of the reefs there was a light wind. Unfortunately, from the wrong direction, it took us a while to get out of the traffic zone and to be able to determine our own course. When we could, the wind decreased. We set some sails anyway. For a little while the wind picked up and we could switch off the engine, but it was only for a very little while and the rest of the morning we didn’t have wind at all. Luckily it got better and we are now sailing in the night. It looks like it’s going to stay this way, so we keep going. The forecast says there will be more wind in the east and less in the west so we steer a bit more east.
