Veracruz

4 April 2016

After a long night with lots of wind, even more then we expected, we made so much progress that we arrived already this morning in Veracruz. But due to the strong wind conditions the harbour was closed for vessels under 500 GT. So this meant we couldn’t get it and we had to anchor and wait for the harbour to open the next day.
Unfortunately strong winds are usually accompanied by a high, which doesn’t make anchoring pleasant. We searched for a good spot behind the reefs to drop our anchor with a long chain for the swell. We stayed here for 24 hours, a bit bumpy but calmer than the night before. This morning the pilot came on board to enter the harbour and moor at the quayside. A nice spot, close to the old part of the city. Immediately all authorities came on board for all the necessary paperwork. Now it is time to prepare for the coming Vopak events. Tomorrow we start with two events for in total 100 kids with their parents to show them around on the ship.
