Barracuda

27 March 2016

We made a lot of progress today. This morning our speed was 8 knots and because the wind shifted a bit we where sailing down wind. We have the course for this so we took the jib and outer jib and set the course. Our speed is 7 knots and it’s far easier to steer. The wind is decreasing and we are ‘only’ going 6 knots which seems slow but it is still a good speed. But the wind will increase tonight. We are ahead of schedule but we still have 950 nautical miles to go. The fishing rot is doing a really good job; today we have Barracuda on the menu! The first one we caught was a monster of 1 meter long. Not much longer after that we caught one of 85 cm, but we thought is was a bit small (and we don’t have to eat fish the whole trip) so we threw it back and kept the line in too, enough is enough.
Instead of the sparrow stay we now have a frigate-bird stay. This morning two frigate birds came to rest on that stay, between the tops of the main and mizzenmast. They liked the spot apparently because they stayed there the whole day. Every now and then they flew around the ship and then got back in place. Really nice!
