Sail-out

7 March 2016

Because we where in the perfect position to sail out of Sint Anna Bay we decided to do so. For us fun to do and for our guest always special and of course a great sight from the people on shore. So at the 5-minute signal for the bridge opening we untied the bowline and doubled the stern line. When the bridge opened the jib was set and as soon as the ship started to turn we let go of the stern line. The topsail and gallant where set quickly and the mainsail followed.
From the Venezuelan boats in the ‘Waaigat’ we heard cheers and yells like ‘Viva da Vela’ (or something similar, my Spanish is not that good). We sailed out of the bay at sunset and we saw camera’s flashing and heard enthusiastic cheers. When were almost out of sight we said goodbye by honking the ships horn which was an answered by loud cheers. We think that our plan was appreciated..
