Northeast Trade winds?

22 February 2016

After an afternoon visiting Guadeloupe we all sat down around the big table to make our plan for the next part of our trip. The destination was clear, but what about the weather forecast? Which route shall we take? How far is it? And when do we have to leave?
The weather forecast said there would be little wind from the east-northeast and that it would increase slightly during the night. The plan was to leave early at LT 02:00, first on engine in the right direction and if the wind increased we could start sailing. A nice plan, which did not quite work. The wind that slowly increased came from the southeast! We ‘hid’ behind the islands, so the swell couldn’t bother us and we made a stop for swimming. Despite the almost full moon we spotted most constellations, so we could tell the stories behind the stars again.
Finally we reached our destination, Saint Lucia and dropped anchor. In the morning we brought everyone to the quay for a tour on this beautiful island. Banana plantations, waterfall, mud bath, idyllic coves, stunning views, and delicious lunch: a great day. Especially when back aboard the BBQ was lit.
