Searching for the Trade Winds

24 January 2016

After our arrival on Tenerife, the ‘land-rush’ started immediately. Getting stores, new spares, repairing the things we couldn’t at sea, phones started ringing, guests disembarking, cleaning the ship, new guests embarking. Land-rush!
But, 48 hours after arrival in Santa Cruz it was time to depart again. The wind was taking a siësta and did not seem to wake up. The dolphins came to say goodbye. At dinner time the wind came back so we could set the first sails and not long after that we could switch off the engine.
We are sailing southwest until we find the Trade Winds. Usually this is somewhere between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. In the ‘worst case’ we have to go all the way to Cape Verde to find the right wind; we will see. For now we are enjoying our first night on a calm ocean with a nice breeze from the eastsoutheast that will push us to the southwest.
