Almost there

Almost there

Almost there

Jan ten Dam continues:
“Today it is the third day in a row that we have beautiful sunny weather, it feels like summer. The last two days we stopped the ship after lunch, to swim in the open ocean and do a foto tour around the ship in the dinghy. Today there is something else planned for us. After a small course change last night we are now on course to pass by the Ilhas Selvagens, halfway between Madeira and the Canary Islands. The ‘island group’ consists of two islands: Selvagem Grande (159 mtr. high) and Selvagem Pequena (49 mtr. high) and a few rocks that barely stick out of the water. The latter has the effect that even outside the coastline you can see the waves break. When we sail between the islands we are treated with a little extra: a big group of bottlenose dolfins is having a fish meal near the ship. Everyone is on deck to witness this spectacle and is trying to catch it on camera.
Sailing along on the very calm ocean, the rough character of this milemaker is slowly turning into a leasurely cruise. At the time of this writing (5 pm), we are about 105 nautical miles away from our destination Santa Cruz de Tenerife. With our current speed we are expecting to be there around noon.
It is almost time to look forward to the next trip!”
