Waiting for favourable wind

10 January 2016

The ‘Oosterschelde’ is in Falmouth waiting for better weather. Falmouth is traditionally the place where sailing ships that want to cross Biscay, wait for favourable conditions. During winter one could be lucky with a stable high pressure area above Europe with winter weather and eastern wind. But it looks more like autumn with a lot of active moving depressions with rain and heavy southwesterly wind. We have calculated extra time in our schedule for circumstances like these. Luckily the forecast is a wind shift to the northwest on Monday night, staying northwest for a while. We expect to depart Monday evening or night for the next leg of our voyage.
