The bad weather is gone!

The bad weather is gone!

The bad weather is gone!

24 July 2015

In the rain, with head wind we left the Lysesundet and set course to Tau. Luckily in the afternoon the sun came out and despite the headwinds it was still enjoyable on deck. That night we dropped anchor in a bay for a few hours sleep. What we needed because the next morning we were going to climb the Pulpit Rock.
Luckily it was dry when we started the hike up the mountain and once on top the sun broke through, so we had a beautiful view of the fjord below and the surrounding mountains. Stijn was somewhat disappointed because there was no wind. He had brought his kite and wanted to kite above the fjord.
When everyone was back on board we quickly left to tie up an hour later at Vikevåg. To avoid any muscle aches and to enjoy the surroundings everyone went for an evening walk.
The next day the good weather really started! We left very early to be on open sea during breakfast because western wind was forecasted. After we saw at a whirlwind in the distance, the wind increased and with 6, 7, 8, 9 knots we were really speedy! During the afternoon we sailed with an average speed well over 8 knots and with the sun high in the sky! We loved it!
Because it was so nice we sailed a little longer than we had originally planned and so we passed Egersund and we ended up in Farsund.
This morning we first took the time to stroll through the town. And the harbour master showed up with a civil crest of Farsund and he told us how much he loved that ships like the ‘Oosterschelde’ came to Farsund. To seal the friendship we offered him the civil crest of the city of Rotterdam. That was of course very much appreciated.
And today, what a GREAT day! The sun shone high in the sky, different ships around us, everyone under sail, and all with a speed of 6 to 8 knots en route to Kristiansand. And the wind was from such a good angle that we lowered the sails at only 4 cables from our berth.
Now, while enjoying the evening sun, we watch the ships come in and celebrate our last evening together.
