Update of Sunday 15th of March, by Heike:
“It has been three weeks today since I stepped aboard the ‘Oosterschelde’ in Cabo Verde. It feels like a long time ago. In this blog we try to keep you, family, friends and interested people updated on our voyage. Wind and weather, food and the watch-system are of course determining factors for our lives aboard. But there is one thing even more important than all of this: It’s the people on board.
Currently the ‘Oosterschelde’ carries 21 souls with different nationalities, belonging to different generations and having very different temperaments. There are the silent ones and the loud ones. There are serious discussions and silly jokes, there is singing and laughter and quiet contemplation but not a lot of privacy. So how does it work? It works pretty damn well and that is one of the wonders of a voyage like this, if you ask me.
Today we had a Yoga lesson and so we are even more relaxed than usual. Finding your balance on a moving ship was a bit of a challenge though, so we will try again tomorrow, hoping to improve.”
