“We are now four days on sail and the rhythm on board has settled. This rhythm is determined by two beats: the meals and the watches. This watch system is straightforward, four hours on deck and eight hours off. Life has become simple: sailing, reading, eating, sleeping. And chatting with each other. There are nineteen people onboard, but we see each other together only at the meals. Caused by the watch system the rhythms are shifted, including sleeping time.
During the watch you are on the steering wheel or you look over the sea, which is always the same but also always different. And sometimes you have hard work on the sails. In this way we cover each day about 150 miles, for the time being to the Azores.”
