Fish

About our Balearic Island trip:
The water in the Mediterranean Sea is bright blue; the visibility reaches meters deep as you can see from the photographs of the screw. But there is not a lot of life underwater. The water contains relatively few nutrients and most fish have seemed to be caught a long time ago.
This rather depressing impression was luckily adjusted when we left off Cabrera. First we saw some tuna jump out of the water. It looks like they are having fun, perhaps because the waters around Cabrera are protected and fishing is not allowed.
Moments later, we saw the sea literally fizzing. A huge school of anchovies or sardines was attacked from below by a large school of tuna while seabirds – seemingly coming out of nowhere- attack from above. An incredible spectacle. Ten minutes later it was over and the sea was just as flat as before.
