Seasick, but cool!

“My voyage in three words: Seasick, but cool! I was seasick almost the whole trip, from Monday untill Thursday morning, when the race was almost over. I didn’t expect to get seasick this much. I did take pills to prevent that, but they didn’t help. Although all that, I had a really nice experience. Especially climbing the mast was great, together with Jonas, my pal on board. We had a really nice group, no fights, no fuzz, just fun. And the food was really good, I wish I could take the cook home with me. Job is the best! The first time I came onboard I already knew two other girls that also came along on the ‘Oosterschelde’, Britt and Veerle. I met them on the selection day. Britt was in the same cabin as me, because Foke wanted to switch to another cabin. No problem, for I got Britt back for her. We laught a lot, especially when I told that I was going abroad for the first time and someone on board asked me were I was going. Really funny. During the Sail-Out Jonas, Nick and I were allowed to climb the mast. I was a bit disappointed that I could not see my parents, brothers and boyfriend from above. They must have been really proud. Our mentor was Ben, he’s mega energetic, and a lot of fun. Our captain Maarten is totally crazy, in a very positive way. I had been looking forward to this trip for a long time and it met all my expectations. On the first day I said I had to climb the mast to fulfill my own expectations. I thought you would be secured all the time while climbing, but on the ratlines, the ladder on the side where you climb, you don’t have to be secured. Only when you reach the shrouds, you have to click on. When I heard that, my hart skipped a beat, because I did not expect that. But I did it anyway and it was not scary at all. It was an honour and privilege to be allowed to be a part of this trip, I’ve enjoyed it very much and will never forget it!”
