Cape Horn passed

3 December 2013

Last night at 22:50 ship’s time (GMT-5) we had Cape Horn at 1.1 NM and a bearing of 000 degrees on our portside. Westerly winds force 8+ Bft. Some showers. Visibility moderate, but we had a good view of the rock and of course the 2 lighthouses.
Currently we are entering Le Maire Strait with moderate visibility and a windforce of WSW 7+ Bft. In about one hour we will alter course due north to proceed to 50 degrees S. For the next 48 hours the weather forecast predicts gale force winds from the southwest.
