Kawau Island is for the Happy Few. Only 25 people live here permanently, but there are 8000 houses. Rich people from Auckland own most of them, having a second house here.
It is not a bad place for a second home. The nature is breathtaking with countless inlets and bays and big houses everywhere with impressive yachts that are moored in backyards of these big houses. We moored at the pier of ‘Paddy’s’, a yacht club. The pier was a bit too short and nobody knew if there was enough water at low tide, but the ‘Oosterschelde’ fitted perfectly. At the end of the day we went out to sea. With a nice evening sun and a friendly breeze, to the anchor spot where all the ships will gather for the last leg to Auckland.
