Bass Strait

28 September 2013

This morning (Sep 28) we left at 8:30am. Wineglass Bay is awesome. A rather narrow entrance with a round bay, ending at a sandy beach; which explains the name. High granite rocks, green and red coloured because of the algae. But we had to go on…
There is a lot to see at sea. Yesterday we saw a Humpback whale close to the ship and last night a small storm-petrel flew inside. Today we saw a lone Wandering albatross, many boobies and gulls, a huge Ocean sunfish and a seal that jumped around the ship like a dolphin.
Weather forecasts say WNW 20-30 knots, but we hardly had any wind at all. Sometimes from the back, sometimes from the front, sometimes a bit more, sometimes no wind. We now have arrived north of Tasmania, entering Bass Strait, and this seems to be the wind that was forecasted. We now sail north, doing 7,5 knots.
