Maatsuyker Island is at 43’40” South and the most southerly point in this Melbourne-Hobart voyage. In the middle of the roaring forties and apparently discovered by a Dutchman. When we passed it, there was no wind at all. A pity, because we had hoped for a south-westerly. Anyway, better than the north-easterly that was still blowing this morning and had produced a considerable swell. We expect the calm not to last long, not in this area.
