The job switch of Jana and Wouter

26 August 2013

As you might have read in one of our previous updates Jana and Wouter have switched jobs for 24 hours and it actually went very well! With Wouter helping us in during the watch we have an extra strong pair of hands and one can see he has seen us working on deck because he sees what he can do and gets right to it. It went very well but he wanted to overcome his fear of heights and there is only one way to do that: climbing the mast! He tried it once before and then he came half way but now he wanted to go all the way up. We tried to persuade him to get on the topsail rig but this was too much, we will save this for next time!
Also Jana was doing great below deck. She wanted to get up early in the morning to bake fresh bread rolls for breakfast and she was spotted at 5:15 AM in the galley! She was busy backing ‘normal’ bread and small bread rolls and not just any but chocolate rolls and ham-and-cheese rolls. Delicious! She also cooked eggs, prepared fresh yoghurt, juice etc. to make the breakfast complete. After breakfast she returned to work again and she surprised us with muesli bars at coffee time, and soup, fresh corn bread and garlic butter with lunch and a lovely dinner. Three courses full of delicious stuff: salad with toast for starters followed by chicken Jana’s way, grandmother’s mashed potatoes and South African pumpkin and as dessert apple crumble pie. After this everyone was full and Jana was exhausted.
In the meantime we make some great progress, it was smooth sailing and we are now between Kangaroo Island and the York peninsula. We started fishing again and we caught another tuna. The plan is to anchor and to have a sun downer and BBQ on deck and to lift the anchor tomorrow and sail on to Adelaide.
