Great Australian Bight

Great Australian Bight

23 August 2013

Update by first mate Maarten:
“As expected the wind pushed us in the right direction for quite some time so we made some great headway over the past few days. And, like said the wind kept changing so we can say the Great Australian Bight is keeping us busy!
Sadly the wind is decreasing and will stop completely so we now try to keep as much speed as possible because the wind will stop but the swell won’t, so it won’t be too long before we have taken down the sails and switch on the engine before they stop banging. Luckily the forecast says the wind will return this evening.

To change things around a bit Cook Wouter and sailor Jana decided to switch jobs for 24 hours. Wouter is now on deck changing sails and polishing the copper inside and Jana is baking bread for breakfast later on. We know that Wouter stands his ground on deck, but we are curious to see how though he is when he has to take down the topsail knowing he is afraid of heights. And we don’t know what to expect from Jana in her new role as cook but knowing that she is baking fresh bread for breakfast we are confident she will succeed. We look forward to the result.”
