Ready for departure…

4 August 2013

After a great stay in Fremantle, where we were welcomed very warm and kindly by locals and dignitaries, we are now almost ready to head towards the Abrolhos Islands. This voyage is based on the historic voyage of ‘Batavia’, a Dutch East India Company (VOC) ship that stranded on the reefs of Beacon Island on June 4, 1629. Our guests from The Netherlands, Germany and Australia have visited the Shipwreck Galleries in the Western Australian Museum and listened to a lecture by the head of Maritime Archeology, Jeremy Green. After the lecture we have visited the museum in a guided tour, shown around by the museum director Ian McLeod.
This afternoon we will set sail, together with ‘Europa’ and ‘Tecla’. And even though our stay in Fremantle was very good, we all look forward to going back to sea. The forecast is good, we start with a 25 knots westerly wind.
