Voyage description

On Thursday the 27th of May you will step on board of the OOSTERSCHELDE for a voyage along the Scottish coast. This almost untouched coast has rugged, rocky landscapes with beautiful islands and many different animal species.

You will embark in the charming village Ullapool. We will show you your cabin and you will meet the other guests. The captain will explain all about life and the safety instructions on board. After this, you can take a walk.

At sunrise the next morning, we will hoist the sails and start our journey to Aberdeen. We first start exploring the Hebrides, if the weather is favorable we will be able to visit the Outer Hebrides and otherwise we explore the Inner Hebrides. On our wishlist are the Shiant-islands in North Minch. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know the ship and the seemingly chaos of lines on board. In the morning we will drop anchor and go ashore with the dinghy. The Shiant-islands have an extraordinary animal population.

After this excursion we will hoist the sails again and set course to the Orkney Islands. The capital Kirkwall is our destination.

We will sail further to the east coast of Scotland. Our final destination is Aberdeen. This is the home port for many ships in the offshore industry. Oil and gas but more and more often also wind. Aberdeen is a beautiful city. There are granite complexes which are very old. The Maritime Museum, The Provost Ross’s House, is located near the harbour and worth a visit.

After breakfast on the 4th of June it’s time to say goodbye to the crew and the ship.

Level 2

Level 2 trips are suitable for anyone in good health and a reasonable level of fitness, without mobility issues. On these trips you can expect days with strong winds or high waves, but in case of heavy weather, or if necessary, the ship can be in a port within 24 hours.

OOSTERSCHELDE wants to be accessible to the widest possible audience, but you must realize that you are making a voyage aboard a seagoing sailing ship. This requires more of your physical ability than a daily walk. One trip is more challenging than the other. With the different levels we provide an indication of what kind of trip it is. If you are unsure whether a trip is suitable for you it is important that you contact OOSTERSCHELDE for advice.
