Busy, busy, busy. Before you know it, you are always too busy to spend some time with your son. And if you have the time, he is too busy and has other priorities. Or the other way around, you would like to spend more time with your father. But there is never enough time. Especially for you, we have planned a ‘father and son’ voyage, for fathers and sons of all ages. A long weekend at sea, with a stop somewhere in the Netherlands in a British or French harbour, if that is possible again at that time. This voyage gives you time to catch up while enjoying the sea and sailing.

Voyage description

On Thursday the 10th of June we welcome you onboard at 5PM. The crew will welcome you and after the introduction we have dinner together. We might leave the same evening and otherwise the next morning.

On the river we explain everything about sailing with a three master and we bring you up to speed about the (safety) rules on board. Together we bring the ship under sail and navigate the ship. During this four-day sailing trip we let the wind determine the course. That and the captain determine where, when and how long can be moored. Then the choice is yours: a walk, a museum visit or a beer in a local café.

The North Sea is one of the busiest seas in the world. This makes a voyage like this very interesting. There are many ships around us and there is a lot of work to be done on deck. All guests will take part in the watch system and we ask everyone to participate in navigation, sail handling, lookout, etc. The watch on duty has to be on his or her spot to make a tack or jibe possible as a give-way manoeuvre. On Sunday the 13th of June, we will be back in Rotterdam in the late afternoon. If family or friends will pick you up, they are more than welcome on board for coffee. Meanwhile it will be possible for you to show them around.

Level 2

Level 2 trips are suitable for anyone in good health and a reasonable level of fitness, without mobility issues. On these trips you can expect days with strong winds or high waves, but in case of heavy weather, or if necessary, the ship can be in a port within 24 hours.

OOSTERSCHELDE wants to be accessible to the widest possible audience, but you must realize that you are making a voyage aboard a seagoing sailing ship. This requires more of your physical ability than a daily walk. One trip is more challenging than the other. With the different levels we provide an indication of what kind of trip it is. If you are unsure whether a trip is suitable for you it is important that you contact OOSTERSCHELDE for advice.
